A Study on the Pluralism of Social Economy -Focused on Substantive Economy Theory of Karl Polanyi-
Kim Hyeong-Don

Abstract
This study explores pluralism of social economy in South Korea based on substantive economy theory of Karl Polanyi. Key findings are like followings.
First of all, seven patterns are identified in the patterns mixing economic principles. In the social economy, organizations mixing different numbers of economic principles are 3:4:3 which shows pluralism of social economy. However, unbalance of each pattern is shown in the seven patterns. Pluralism of social economy is different. Social enterprises > social coopearatives > self-help company > community order shows high level of pluralism. In the second place, three types are identified with three economic principle based resources. Based on main resources, exchange-focused pattern, redistribution-focused pattern, and reciprocity-focused pattern are named. The pattern with balanced resource is not identified which means pluralism seems partial. In the third place, influencing factors on diverse patterns are found with multinomial logistic regression analysis. Social enterprise has higher possibility to include redistribution-focused pattern, and reciprocity-focused pattern than self-help company. Male executives and high Major shareholder stakes increases possibility to include redistribution-focused pattern.
This study suggests a few issues to be discussed for the growth of social economy based on the key findings.
